"My Brother" by Chan Wai Teik

Wai Teik is an accomplished fashion lensman who has been photographing since 1998. For this piece of work, he juxtaposed two seemingly contrasting images. One image from his "Hypertrophy" book that showcases Asian musculature is dark and serious in tonality. The other, from a children's book, is both colourful and whimsical. The clash of the subjects as well as the text lends an evocative feel.

"Cherished Posession" by David Chein

David has been a travel photographer since 2000 and his works have been featured in travel magazines and by agencies specializing in adventure tourism. His works are on display at www.davidchein.com. David says that he has since chosen to develop other interests and this is his last work of photography. “Cherished Possession” is a mix of American photographer Herb Ritts’ easygoing portrayals of men at play and Japanese illustrator's Sadao Hasegawa's portrayals of desire. The piece asks the question: When does being playful cross the line to become a desire to possess?

"Hooked" by Gary Lim

Gary founded Antfarm Design in 2004, a design firm specialising in design for the art, music and fashion industries. He is trained in both graphic design as well as photography. "Hooked" was created during the time Gary was heavily influenced by photographer Joel Peter-Witkin. It was actually the first time he worked with nudes. It's about the pain of one's obsessions.

"Absence/Presence" by Genevieve Chua

Young lesbian artist Genevieve Chua explores the themes of psychological horror and sexuality through her pencil drawings and wants to invoke viewers to rethink their perceptions and conjure new experiences. She has held two solo exhibitions in Singapore and has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including 72-13 which was part of 2007’s Indignation calendar. “Absence/Presence” is a rare series of oil paintings from Genevieve’s store of early works which were inspired by the classic French movie “Amelie”.

"Gattaca" by Heman Chong

Heman – a Malaysian raised in Singapore - received his M.A in Communication Art & Design from The Royal College of Art, London in 2002. His art practice involves an investigation into the philosophies, reasons and methods of individuals and communities imagining the future. Charged with a conceptual drive, this research is then adapted into objects, images, installations, situations or texts.

His current research dwells on the representation of imposed solitary situations within the genres of sci-fi and fantasy seen through the psychological characterizations of The Hide-away, The Cast-away and The Prisoner. For this event-specific contribution, Heman asked a member of TheBearProject to name his favourite science fiction film and designed a film poster around the answer.

"Emotions" by Ronald Sng

Ronald Sng works as a banker with an international firm. His interest in art started in his teenage years when he embarked on a design marketing course that combined both of his passions for Art and Money. His other loves includes collecting Chinese religious artifacts, hitting the gym and spending time with friends. “Emotions” is Ronald’s interpretation of the relationship between energy and life, as well as the juxtaposition of outward appearance and the innate. “With this thought, this piece conveys how the force of nature is parallel to life where things are not what they seem,” says Ronald. “And how through energy, we can affect how we feel and thus how we can change our lives. "

"Hong Kong #64" by Tay Kay Chin

Kay Chin, a Singapore-based photographer, spent the early part of his professional career at The Straits Times. After leaving the newspaper, he worked as Presentation Editor of the Sun newspaper in Bremerton, Washington, where his frontpage design for the September 11 disaster was selected by Poynter Institute as one of the 10 best designs in the world. Kay Chin has exhibited widely and his photographs are collected by both public institutions and private collectors. This photograph, selected specially for this charity auction, was taken at a public swimming pool in Hong Kong.

"Everybody Has AIDS" by Thomas Tan

Thomas was trained as a fashion designer in Temasek Polytechnic and currently works as a design consultant. He travels extensively and works with some of the most popular American labels in the market. Thomas started sketching when he was 8 years old and hasn't looked back since, counting Coco Chanel and Cristobal Balenciaga among his list of heroes.
“Everybody has AIDS” is about how no one is spared from the dreaded but preventable disease. The gradating red colour on the t-shirt shows the growing numbers of people with HIV, while the many faces that make up the AIDS ribbon celebrate those who worked hard in fighting the disease. It also serves to remind us that we can never tell who is HIV positive.
